Casa Zalia - Fuerteventura

Architect designed to maximise enjoyment of the island’s climate and landscape, Casa Zalia shelters extensive outdoor facilities including sun terraces, and a pool with a view to a dormant volcano in the distance.

The house is located near homes where aloe vera is farmed, amongst lava fields typical of the area and where dry-stone walls appear to tumble down the hillside.

Abundant beaches, the best and quietest in Europe and the draw for many who visit the island of Fuerteventura, are nearby.

There are several options for eating in nearby Villaverde which also has a medium sized supermarket.

The house itself is white and distinctive, set in a pocket of black rock under brilliant blue skies.

Inside the spacious living area, reflections from the outdoor pool dance on the signature white walls. The large dining table lends itself well to simple suppers or more formal celebrations. There is a wood burning stove for the cooler months.

Next and adjoining is the kitchen area where there is space for a casual breakfast, or to sit and chat with the cook! All the necessary appliances are here – a large fridge freezer, coffee machine, oven, hob, dishwasher and washing machine.

Moving down a couple of steps through the house are three bedrooms leading away from a single corridor. Each offers real comfort, seclusion and style with smooth white bed linen and silk taffeta curtains imported from the UK.

The largest of the bedrooms is ensuite with expansive windows for watching the moon cross the sky or to check on the prospects for a day’s kite surfing. On a lower level a sunken bath offers the bather a private view of the garden through a perfectly placed tiny window.

The second double room overlooks the Casa’s pool. It has extensive wardrobe space as well as a dressing table, occasional furniture and a choice of lighting. The spacious third bedroom offers flexibility for families or groups of friends with full size twin beds and side tables.

Traditional dry-stone walls border the garden, and steps lead up to yet another terrace on the roof with views out to sea and Lanzarote in the distance.
